Well, boo friggin' hoo

Jawa Report has the bin Laden audio tape, and "he" is ranting about the Pope.

The Pope?

Yes
Then came the publishing of these drawings, which came in the framework of a new Crusade, in which the Pope of the Vatican has played a large, lengthy role. And all of that is confirmation on your part of the continuation of the war, as well as testing the Muslims and their religion...
Or, as Jawa reminds us,
When did the Pope reference the violence that ensued after the Muhammed cartoons? September 12, 2006.
You can read the whole translation at Jawa, but for the time being I'm wondering if Fidel and Osama are playing canasta together right now.

NewsBusted, news flash from Osama, and more news

And, at NewsBusters, Wash. Monthly Blog Shows for Left, Name Calling = Political Analysis by another Clinton intern.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

News flash for Osama bin Laden, who's still calling for "guerrilla forces in Mesopotamia." to kill themselves for him.

Obviously Osama's not happy over the fact that by now even Associated Press (that arm of the vast right-wing conspiracy) is reporting that Iraq: al-Qaida 75 Percent Gone

Too bad Osama didn't know about the Terrifying new video from previously unknown terror group

What? Subtitles?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

GM Roper endorses a presidential candidate.

I'm still undecided.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Louisiana Conservative looks forward to 2008.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Neither Frank Gaffney, nor John Bolton, nor Tom Friedman are Huckabee advisors.

Obviously.

Crocs, and Bin Laden

I didn't do a round-up on Bin Laden's latest "appearance" (which apparently was scripted by 28-year-old Adam Gadahn - h/t Jeremayakovka) for this blog because I was doing one for Pajamas Media. All I can add is that OBL's looking like a Muppet Show reject.

Doug Ross, however, has done the illustrated version of OBL, while Gateway Pundit did a side-by-side and noticed that,
OBL was more animated in 2004- more movements.
Today he looked a little stiff.

On to a crock of a different kind,

Are Crocs unhealthy?
Bjorn Lofqvist, the spokesman for Blekinge Hospital, said that staff wearing Crocs could produce "a cloud of lightning".
I would say that the Swedes have other medical matters to worry over.

Aussie Catholics rioting over Osama-Jesus?

No, of course they aren't.

It's the time of year for the Blake Prize in the land down under, but it's always season for taking potshots at us Catholics, so here we have what passes for art these days:

Artist defends Osama-as-Jesus

Priscilla Joyce Bracks' Bearded Orientals, Making the Empire Cross is a lenticular image in which the viewer can flip between portraits of Jesus and Osama bin Laden, by shifting slightly from side to side.

Isn't that precious: Bearded Orientals, Making the Empire Cross. Because you know, you gotta include references to empire (be it British, or whatever) and the Cross, since the image itself wasn't laying on the offensive stuff thick enough.

Of course anyone who awards a prize for this "religious art" is morally bankrupt, and it shows: Reverend Rod Pattenden, who awarded the $15,000 prize to the competition winner says about Bearded Orientals, Making the Empire Cross that

the artist was questioning "the idea that you can have absolute good and absolute evil. Life's a bit more complicated than that".
Ponder that for a moment: A clergyman who does not believe in absolute good.

Completing the dhimmitude and complete moral equivalence of the bien pensant, a statue of the Virgin Mary shrouded by a Muslim burqa was also a Blake Prize entry.

If you haven't heard of the Blake Prize, it's a $15,000 prize awarded for religious art,
The Reverend Rod Pattenden, who awarded the $15,000 prize to the competition winner in Sydney yesterday, said his mission was to spark debate about spirituality in a world that was "cynical, degraded and in crisis".

With competition like this, it ought to be.

As if the anti-Catholic imagery is not insulting enough, Reverend Rod manages to fling yet one more insult while he's at it,

Mr Pattenden said he did not expect controversy to result from the exhibition at the National Art School Gallery "because the Christian community doesn't look at art a great deal".
With crap like this being called prize-winning "art", why would it want to?

Meanwhile, over in Sweden, Lars Vilks is receiving death threats.

Captain Ed wants to know, When Exactly Did Art Die?

No One Left To Lie To?

Ed asks, Did Clinton lie about targeting Bin Laden?, to which I say, the question should be, "when hasn't Clinton lied about anything?"

Indeed, Clinton never gave the CIA an assassination order on bin Laden. Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball have the whole story. Don Surber points out,
Michael Isikoff, the reporter who broke the Monica Lewinsky story only to have his editors at Newsweek spike the story, has caught Bill Clinton in another lie: He never authorized the killing of Osama bin Laden.
Perhaps it all depends on what the definition of "kill" is.

As AJ Strata rather inelegantly but accurately puts it,
So while he was being serviced by an intern in the Oval Office he [Clinton] let Bin Laden run free to finish his work on 9-11. The ultimate screwing of the American people - and he did not even offer us a drink.
WILLisms: Bill Clinton: Still The Lyingest Liar That Ever Lied.

Every time Bill shakes a finger, he lies:

A Jacksonian last year itemized the wake-up calls that Clinton ignored during his tenure.

If that's not enough to convince you of Clintons' (both of them, since they're running for a second round) perverse disregard for facts, I invite you to read Christopher Hitchens's book, No One Left To Lie To: The Values of the Worst Family. It'll shed some more light on the true character of the co-presidents.

Then there's Hillary's Peter Paul lawsuit (via Jeremayakovka, who's also remembering an anniversary of sorts).

But back to Bin Laden: The fact remains that Clinton didn't do squat because they didn't see Bin Laden as important as keeping his ass from being removed from office. And that's the truth.

Update, Friday 24 August:
Larwyn:
"The LEFT MUST LIE. Those bright enough to use the IDEOLOGY as an easy way to POWER HAVE TO BE AWARE OF THEIR LIES. The next level, knows that their are many lies but it really is FOR THE GREATER GOOD. The rest just believe what they have been taught and what is spun for them daily by the LSM. So nothing shocking about the new leaks proving how CLINTONS HAVE LIED."

The full story, the modern Wife of Bath, and today's other items

My friend Captain Ed posts on A Case Of Missing Context At The Gray Lady
Readers who want the whole story have to read the Los Angeles Times to find out what else Maliki said about the Iraqi position:
Maliki, a Shiite, put on a brave face in the wake of the rising demand in the U.S. among Democratic and Republican legislators for withdrawal from Iraq.
He pleaded for time, pledging to achieve the passage of legislation that Washington has demanded as a condition of its continuing support, including an oil revenue sharing law, a revised constitution and the easing of government work restrictions for former supporters of President Saddam Hussein, who was captured, tried and executed after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

Maliki also said that Iraqi security forces could use more training from U.S.-led forces and needed more weaponry.
You know the NYT's faltering when you get the full story from the LAT.

Also via Captain Ed, a terrific article by Rod Liddle, Having a torrid time at the BBC - Busy Blurting Confessions. Nobody lets it rip like the Brits, and Liddle's in fine form. Read it all, but here's a sample,
Then came the television news teams 'fessing up that they may have inadvertently misled the public over the single European currency, the inherent competence and decency of Hamas, Fatah and the Taliban, the desirability of unconstrained immigration and the notion that bunging loads of money in aid to Africa would solve that continent's problems. Oh, and a whole bunch of other stuff about the dangers of smoking and global warming and being fat. The BBC's "gypsy unit" turned up too, to confess that not everyone who had reservations about encroachment by Britain's traveller community were necessarily racist middle-class bigots. They were late, though, because their cars had been nicked.
Rod Liddle knows what he's talking about since,
Rod Liddle left his post as editor of the BBC's Today programme in 2002, after a row about impartiality in an article he wrote for The Guardian.
Rod, if you're reading this, email me when you come to Princeton and I'll buy you a beer.

Rod also writes about Jane Felix-Browne, a.k.a. Zaina Mohamad al-Sabah, the latest incarnation of the Wife of Bath who was fond of pilgrimage and fond of a much younger man. Jane/Zaina, like the Wife, has been married five times, is middle-aged (if people live to be 102, since she's 51), enjoys travel, and married a much younger man (a 26 yr-old).

There ends the resemblance to the WoB: the WoB might have been madly in love with her young husband but she wasn't crazy enough to marry the 1380s equivalent of Osama Bin-Laden's son and move to Saudi Arabia.

One must consider, however, that the WoB was a woman of the 14th Century, and Jane/Zaina's now the daughter-in-law of a guy that wants to send us back to the 10th Century, so it's all in the spirit of the times.

Time and time again I have seen many marriages fall apart where the age difference was >15 years (but never one where the husband already had another wife since I've never met any polygamists), but let's just say that'll be the least of Jane/Zaina's troubles.

Osama, or so they say, is praising the martyrdom of others:
"The happy (man) is the one that God has chosen him to be a martyr,"
says he, while depriving himself of that happiness. it's time to resurrect one of my old limericks from back in 2004:
There once was a boy named Osama
who never respected his mamma.
He blew up the World Trade
and is now in a cave,
hiding away, like Saddam-a
I realize that my limerick is a rerun, but so is Osama's video; that completes the trio.

Venezue-lan-born Vladimir Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, a.k.a. Carlos the Jackal, sneers at Al-Qaeda's 'amateur' killers from his prison cell in France.

Not that that makes them less deadly.

On to unrelated stuff:
The French are a lot bigger optimists than I thought: Now they have free bicycles. Bon chance on that, mes amis!

Francis Porretto has a post on Fred Thompson which convinced me that the Dems must see Fred as the first viable Southern Presidential candidate since Bill Clinton - and they are scared.

Never mind men's neckties; how do you walk in these?

Should a country this crazy have nuclear weapons?
