Caught with the hand near the cookie jar

The one thing that ties the Mark Folley, David Vitter and Larry Craig sex scandals together (aside from their party affiliation) is that none of them were actually caught in the act. They didn't even have their pants down.

As Eric asks, What is it with these guys that they can't even run a proper sex scandal?

Who ever heard of sex scandals without sex?
If I were the American people, I'd be totally sick of sexless Republican sex scandals by now.

The GOP needs to shape up.

Starting with Larry Craig. Even the moral conservatives ought to be able to recognize that a gay sex scandal without gay sex is even more abnormal than gay sex. I mean really. It's just plain weird. Couldn't the guy have at least managed to get caught in a gay bathhhouse or something, like a normal homosexual?

So, even though it's counterintuitive and against my usual instincts, my advice right now to Larry Craig boils down to two words: COME OUT.

Plus, there's an additional advantage. If he "comes out," the moralists can always offer to "treat" him.
As Eric points out, shame is a losing proposition ... to the Republicans only.

If shame was a losing proposition to the Democrats, we wouldn't have her nagging around.

Never mind Ted Kennedy, or Barney Frank and whoever else.

About the Craig story

Yet another politician in a sex scandal, as if 2008 wasn't going to be tough enough.

I partly agree with Sister Toldjah, but I totally agree with Roger:

Sister Toldjah
That Craig has turned out to be gay after all in and of itself doesn't bother me from a legislative perspective, because you can be gay and vote in favor of things like the DOMA, just like you can be black and vote against affirmative action, and just like you can be a woman and vote against abortion - unlike the left, who believes that minorities who don’t vote the way "they're supposed to" are traitors to their very beings. It's the personal aspect of this that is bothersome - the deception, the lies, the adultery, the criminal nature of what he was arrested for back in June (is that the tip of the iceberg on Craig's adulterous behavior?). He's married. He's broken his vows of marriage. He hasn't been practicing what he preaches. He's deceived his constituency. That's what's bothersome.
Roger L. Simon:
He should resign, not for his behavior in the bathroom, but for his creepy political phoniness.
If there's a contradiction in my attitude, so be it.

Craig has no excuse either way.
