Friedman dreams of Kumbaya with fireworks

Since my birthday is on September 13, I would love to think 9/11 never happened.

Well, here comes Thomas Friedman declaring 9/11 Is Over and says that We can't afford to keep being this stupid! because "we're about the Fourth of July".

Friedman's world is reduced to singing Kumbaya while the fireworks go off in the distance, simply because we're smart enough not to worry about those explosions going off in faraway places.

Navel gazing, indeed.

A. J. Strata points out,

Friedman’s little fantasy world exists because many faced reality and dealt with the threats facing this nation.

As Wizbang says,

Our liberal friends wish that Islamofascism would just disappear--or, failing that, that we pretend that it disappeared.

After all, Islam is peace; the thing is, as Robert Spencer explained when he was my podcast guest, radical Islam's idea of peace is for the entire world to be under their thumb.

But there might be hope for Tom. In his article, he recognizes that the free Cuban government healthcare system is a failure:

I will not vote for any candidate who is not committed to dismantling Guantanamo Bay and replacing it with a free field hospital for poor Cubans.

Free, American-government-provided healthcare for all!

For the time being, Tom's all warm inside ignoring those pesky terrorists overseas.

I will not be surprised if Tom's next plea will be to ask us to live with the Iranian bomb.

As a side note,
Friedman complains that,

I still can't get uninterrupted cellphone service between my home in Bethesda and my office in D.C.

My son was able to talk on his cell phone all the way while we drove on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel, completely uninterrupted even when we were in the tunnel (which means we were under water).

Get a better phone, Tom.

On September 11, 2001, cell phone service was reasonably adequate. Cell phone service and airphone service allowed Todd Beamer and other men and women to make desperate calls after Middle Eastern men hijacked their planes. Phone service, by cell phone and otherwise, was also adequate to allow men and women to call from the World Trade Center to say heart-wrenching goodbyes to their families and to beg for someone to save them.

We didn't need better cell phone service on 9/11. We needed so much more. We needed the kind of efforts that might have kept four passenger planes from being hijacked by Islamic terrorists to begin with.
