Pandering tonight: Dems "debate" on Univision
The Democrat party is now deep into full-pandering mode: they can't be bothered to hold a real debate on Fox News but they're willing to have someone do the translating for them on Univision tonight for their round-robin press conference, which they continue to call a "debate".
By doing so, they continue to foment the delusional Hispanic mirage, which perpetuates the exploitation of poor Spanish speakers by denying them the means to participate in all of our country's opportunities - of which learning English is only the first step.
Make no mistake: not learning English is the surest way to keep the underprivileged dependent on big government and the welfare state.

"A lot of people are free today because they believe in the American dream," he said.Spare me the pandering, please. If the La Raza people were really interested in effective political involment by Spanish-speakers, they would be sponsoring English as a Second Language classes.
And that dream means debates like Sunday's, where the nation's Hispanic voters can not only watch eight White House hopefuls respond to issues of special concern to their communities but also have their answers translated into Spanish.
"We'll have a unique opportunity to hear a discussion in a format we've really never heard before," said Janet Murguia, the president and chief executive officer of the National Council of La Raza, a Hispanic activist group.
The debate at the University of Miami will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. on the Univision television network, Radio Cadena Univision and online at Univision.com. Univision, a Spanish-language network, claims it reaches 99 percent of all U.S. Hispanic television households.
The forum will be conducted in English - since only New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and Connecticut Sen. Christopher J. Dodd speak fluent Spanish - and will be simultaneously translated into Spanish.
But the meaning is clear.
Think of all the Hispanics who fled their native countries for political reasons, said Jorge Mursuli, national executive director of Democracia U.S.A., a nonpartisan group that encourages political involvement.
"We tell people in this country it's easy to become civically engaged," he said, "and these debates are an incredible example of how to bring democracy right into the living rooms of Hispanic Americans."

Democratic presidential candidates were meeting Sunday night for the first debate broadcast entirely in Spanish, the clearest sign yet of the growing influence of Hispanic voters.How influential do those voters really want to become that they can't bother to learn the language used in Congressional bills, the tax code, and the Senate record?
Or are the Dems proposing to translate those, too?

Univision invited the Republican candidates for a similar forum, but only Arizona Sen. John McCain has accepted.Sen. McCain sponsored the disastrous Kennedy-Bush amnesty bill which mercifully didn't pass.

Why am I not surprised that McCain was the only one to accept the invitation?
So what's next? Can we expect the Dems to cater to the care crowd in a Farsi translated debate?
I love how you idiots cannot even see how you are killing your party's future chances by snubbing the fastest growing segmant of the population.
Also, how can you guys advocate english only, when you obviously haven't mastered the language yourself. It is reffered to as the Democratic Party. You cannot use "Democrat" as an adjective.
Please continue your hateful rhetoric...you are doing the Democrats a favor that you don't even realize.
I am glad the Republicans are not participating with Univision. Univision is the channel that is racist --- they do not even have programming for the general audience, just their own, and the Democrats. For shame.

If we are going to go "tit for tat" on English grammar, then you should have revised your comment before posting. In English, the word "English" is capitalized; also, the word "referred" has only one "f," not two. Oh, and "segment" does not have an "a."
As far as snubbing the fastest-growing segment of the population, I think the Democrats who participated in tonight's debate did more than their fair share to hurt their own chances when addressing questions on Cuba -- for Dodd to answer the way he did in Miami, of all cities, was a bit of a SNAFU -- and on Venezuela. I personally found it a bit strange that when Bill Richardson wanted to answer in Spanish, Univision would not allow it, based on the rules to which the candidates had agreed. Their reasoning? They did not want any one candidate to have an unfair advantage because said candidate spoke in Spanish, which might be more appealing to the Spanish-speaking audience. Personally, I think that's completely absurd. Spanish speakers are not stupid, we are fully capable of making our decisions based on the content and substance of what is said, not in which language it is said.

Long time ago, when I had finished my first year of college in worse shape than I had begun it (in part because my English was terrible), I did the one thing that guaranteed the rest of my life. I abandoned Univision and las telenovelas, and began to watch TV in English. I began reading newspapers in English. I threw Spanish out the window, even though I had spoken it for the first eighteen years of my life, and took English by the horns.
It was a question of survival. No English, no good life here in America. It's that simple.
If that's "hate rethoric", so be it. But I have never regretted it.
DJ perhaps doesn't know that one best-seller in the Hispanic community is the correspondent course named Inglés sin Barreras - English Without Obstacles. Can you explain that, DJ?
I'm as Puerto Rican as it goes. But I'm not a fool nor an idiot, unlike DJ here. Or do we have to tell you to get a clue in Spanish to make our point?
It is too sad that Democrats think we're that stupid so they can go "down our level", when so many of us know what they are actually saying... and doing behind our backs.

The day that Fox News hold a real debate, or a real debate is, at all, held, I will probably grow female genitals and undergo other unnatural metamorphosis as a sign of cheer. The only thing scarier than ideas superficially fabricated by politicians is to witness the ignorance of the nation that elects them. Cheers!
