What's clear is that the Cuban free-healthcare apartheid system doesn't even work for the big honcho:

Reuters says, Spanish surgeon rushed to treat Castro:
Jose Luis Garcia Sabrido, an intestinal specialist, traveled to the Caribbean island on Thursday aboard an aircraft chartered by the Cuban government, according to Spain's left-leaning El Periodico de Catalunya newspaper.By the way, in Spain, conservative politicians questioned the use of Spanish funds to pay for medicines being sent to the Cuban leader since June (h/t Val). But I digress.
The plane carried medical equipment not available in Cuba in case the leader needs further surgery due to his progressively failing health, the newspaper reported.
The Beeb's a little more specific about Dr Garcia Sabrido's skills:

Therefore, when the doctor categorically says,
"He hasn't got cancer," Garcia Sabrido said, adding that he believed Castro could be physically capable of running the country again. "While respecting confidentiality, I can tell you that President Castro is not suffering from any malignant sickness."one must believe him. You can even watch him say it.

Give Castro a plateful of Jalapeños and Habaneros.
It will make the embalming process that much easier for the American Peronistas wannabes- Finally, a martyr they can cry over! It might even hasten the production of 'Don't Cry for Me, Cuba' on Broadway.
I predict millions of lefties, the world over, coming to paying to pay homage to the pickled remains, a la Lenin. Don't knock it- it will be be good for Cuban tourism.

Hopefully the hall will be air-conditioned. There isn't enough formaldahyde otherwise to preserve the unholy relics (and I'm referring to the lefties now).

According to New York gossip columnist Cindy Adams, the Open Range hunk will take on producing and writing duties for the Broadway, Manhattan, bound project. Although no official opening date has been slated, sources close to the JFK actor believe the proposed play is already attracting theatrical and public interest. Realicé la especialidad en el Hospital Gregorio Marañón de Madrid, el antiguo Provincial -y menos antiguo Generalísimo Franco, como muchos de los pacientes de mayor edad aún le denominan. Los recuerdos de la etapa de residente son para un médico los más duraderos, y tengo entre los míos haber estado integrado en la monumental y caótica mole del mayor hospital de Europa, mastodonte dubitativo y en constante cambio. Por eso me viene ahora a la memoria cómo las políticas internas del Hospital siempre estuvieron vinculadas a obtener el plácet de los políticos “provinciales” (incluso antes de asumirse por las Autonomías las transferencia de la Sanidad, pues el "Provincial" no dependió nunca del INSALUD, sino de la Diputación de Madrid), y que la politización del Centro era de una variante más pragmática que ideológica. El ejercicio de la Medicina allí siempre estuvo amenizado por las pequeñas ambiciones, que eran el origen de una política patatera; en mis últimos años en el Hospital las guerras entre los diferentes Servicios y dentro de los mismos eran libradas siempre con la vista puesta en la Consejería.
García Sabrido, buen cirujano, estaba adscrito a la facción socialista del Hospital, como uno de los pocos leales a muerte a Sabando, último Consejero de Sanidad del PSOE. Creo que es plausible imaginar que haya sido la recomendación de Felipe González, que hacía llamar a Monclóa con frecuencia a los especialistas del Marañón más afines, la más determinante en la elección de Sabrido por parte de la Inteligencia Cubana como cirujano de máxima confianza para una intervención que ya no se prevé que sea mucho más que un embalsamamiento. Nuestro hombre en la Habana tendrá por delante un difícil papelón del que no puede salir más que escaldado. Ninguna decisión médica puede estar basada en la ética médica en medio del akelarre de la nomenklatura cubana, y no parece que al especialista le vaya a ser permitido sugerir un abordaje simplemente paliativo para tan terminal enfermo: no ha sido llevado a Cuba para eso. En esta hora, mucho más útil que su trayectoria de cirujano ha de serle su habilidad para la intriga -en la que tan ducho ha de ser todo jefe de servicio del Marañón- cuando tenga que desenvolverse entre las camarillas del Partido y toda decisión clínica tenga primero que superar el entramado de obstáculos que forman la obediencia castrense, las ambiciones soterradas, los odios intestinos, y el insuperable miedo a un futuro sin Jefe o a un Jefe sin futuro.
