Saddam was a year away from a nuclear bomb

Over the past year Captain's Quarters has been translating documents that prove that Iraq had WMDs and was sheltering terrorists.

Now the NYT has finally acknowledged the documents' evidence:

Among the dozens of documents in English were Iraqi reports written in the 1990's and in 2002 for United Nations inspectors in charge of making sure Iraq abandoned its unconventional arms programs after the Persian Gulf war. Experts say that at the time, Mr. Hussein's scientists were on the verge of building an atom bomb, as little as a year away.

Saddam Hussein's government was aware not just of the presence of Al Qaeda terrorist Abu Mus'ab Al Zarqawi, but also was aware that the Anbar province in Iraq was being used as a launch point for organized groups of jihadis headed to fight the United States in Afghanistan

So, as the New York Times trumpets today, Iraq did have the know-how to make nuclear weapons and we know he certainly had the desire and will to do so. Would you really have preferred to have left it up to the UN corrupt sanctions program to forestall his actually developing those weapons and leasing them out to the terrorists he was supporting throughout the Middle East?

Meanwhile, looking at the elections, In the right place posts that

Members of the Palestinian Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, terrorist organizations, seem to have a rooting interest in next week's election

I'm sure the NYT will be there for them.
