Dell heaven
After much comparison shopping and advice from the rest of the family, I got my first laptop, a Dell.
It's working, it's connected, and now I have to get used to the keyboard and the "sliding mouse" thingie (a.k.a. the touchpad). I can post from anywhere in the house.
Life is good.
Now I'll try the built-in DVD player.

Fausta, I suspect you will grow to hate the touchpad. It can be especially annoying when typing, as it tends to pick up the heels of your hands if you don't keep them elevated. This leads to seemingly random cursor moves which will make a garbled mess of a paragraph in no time at all.
I use a wireless USB mouse with my laptop, and much prefer it to the touchpad.
I'm starting to see why you hate the touchpad, Ken. Will do a little on-line shopping for a mouse (wireless or wired).
