Breaking News: Electrical accident at Boy Scout Jamboree
Boy Scouts: Four (new number) killed in accident at Jamboree
The Boy Scouts of America now says four Boy Scout leaders have been killed in an electrical accident at the organization's 2005 Jamboree in Bowling Green, Virginia. It was first reported that five had died.

A Jamboree spokesman says the accident happened this afternoon, but had few other details.

One other leader and a contract worker were also injured but remain in stable condition at a local hospital.
My heart and prayers go out to them.

Recently, a federal judge banned Pentagon support for future Boy Scout Jamborees. I hope this decision is overturned. The Scouts need your help. The ACLU is determined to destroy the Boy Scouts organization. Here are a few things what you can do:
  • Read the articles at the Boy Scouts of America Legal Issues Site.

  • Spread the word. Tell all your friends about this. Email your entire mailing list.

  • Write, call, and email both the national ACLU and your state ACLU offices protesting this current policies. Insist on being heard. To find your local office, navigate the national ACLU site to the right-bottom corner where it says "YOUR LOCAL ACLU" and you'll find the states listed alphabetically.

  • Register at the BSA website for updates, donate money to their legal defense fund. Join any of the supporting organizations, and add your organization to the supporting organizations roster.

  • Laura Friedel and David Scott of the Schiff Hardin law firm are the lawyers assisting the ACLU in the Illinois law suit. If you're their client, withdraw your business and tell them why.

  • Call your representative in Congress and ask them to support the BSA. Call your Senator and ask him/her to support the BSA. Find out how they voted and insist that they support the Scouts.

  • Write to your local papers supporting the Scouts.

  • Call your local United Way and request that they support the Scouts. If they don't, don't support the United Way.
The Save Our Scouts bill will be reintroduced in the next session of Congress. We need to act now.

The ACLU, I call it the American Criminals Liberation Union is still furious at the Supreme Court for not outlawing the policy of the BSA refusing to allow homosexuals from membership. When that tack failed they went to another approach: ban the BSA because they only allow those who believe in God to be members. The most henious thing the ACLU ever did was defend in a criminal case two NAMBLA members who raped and killed a 10 year old child in MA and then defended these two killers in a civil suit brought by the parents of the slain child. The ACLU and most homosexual oriented organizations approve of the attempt of the NAMBLA organization to lowere the age on consenting children. This is most puzzleing because they want to raise the age of those accused of felonies to be tried in adult court.

They want what they want and on their own terms. Can any straight father willingly submit their children to these preditors?

just a correction - you do NOT have to believe in God (or a god) to belong to the BSA.

Scout Oath

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

It would be difficult to do my duty to God, if I didn't believe in a God.

An Assistant Scout Leader

Just because someone is gay, doesn't make them a pedophile...that kind of thinking is just plain ignorant. Because of BSA's rulings it has caused problems for other groups here in So.Fla. The schools refused to allow Boy Scouts to hold meeetings in the public schools because of their discriminatory ruling. Of course that was overruled by the courts..so the schools made the fee to use the schools for meetings too expensive for scouts and other groups (it used to be free!!) BSA's position has backfired onto it's sister group,Girl Scouts..we have to pay the price & we DON'T discriminate!!
My prayers go out to all those close to the Deceased Scout leaders
SO SAD!! Scouting is a wonderful orginazation for boy's & girls...

This is still America> I believe in God. I believe in the Boy Scouts. How sad it is to see the Scouts have to defend their beliefs. This country was found on freedom under God not from God. People can believe what they want to just don t try to force Godless beliefs on me.

I think the ACLU needs to find another target. The Boy Scout Of America is a wonderful organization. Boys are learning skills to last a life time. Dwelling on one small part of Scouting is ridiculous. Scouting helps out the community. They do not push religion on anyone. People are allowed to worship if and how they choose. I was a scout leader for 4 years ,I was not brought up going to church or having a strong or any neccessarily any belief in god. I But scouting teaches good morals. Trustworthy,loyal,helpful,friendly,couteous,kind,obedient,cheerful,thrifty,brave ,clean and reverent,To me and those that don't believe in a god I take reverent as respect. Respect in other's right to believe in the god of their choice.I think all of the people that have such a problem with a god are the problem with the world. People aren't pushing relgion on you . Lighten up and just enjoy the diversity.If you choose not to believe in God or not ,that is yours and yours alone to make. Leave everyone else alone. As for homosexuals ,they are people too. Let them in. I have 2 sons and my husband all in scouting.I would trust them around a homosexual as well as any other leader. How do you know if any of the other leaders the boys come in contact with aren't child molesters. You have to get to know the people and not judge people as a group.

Please understand that this whole mess has gotten way out of hand because of misinterpetation. The Gay issue: Whether one is heterosexual or homosexual it doesnt matter unless you make it an issue in Scouting. There is no place for ones sexual preference in a youth program. Its about the youth and the program. Instead of being just and "adult leader" people decided they wanted to be a "homosexual adult leader" thereby taking the attention away from the Scouting program and putting it on the Gay Rights issue. NOT in Scouting. It is clear that this is a political issue and the ACLU hates children. Their attack on Scouting has hurt a fantastic program for young people to further a cause that had no business being discussed in Scouting to begin with. I guarantee if a person made issue of their Heterosexuality in Scouting they too would get booted. Its not about you, its about the youth and the aims and methods of scouting.
My heart and prayers go out to the families, friends and loved ones of those leaders that lost their lives at the Jamboree. Volunteers are the lifes blood of Scouting, which is volunteer run. The selfless act that is carried out by millions of volunteer leaders every year for the past 95 years has made Scouting the great program it is. Be it God, or a Supreme being, we as Americans are blessed to have people like them doing what they do for our youth.

Anonymous 5:44PM was right. The BSA does not require that you believe in any particular God. You cannot be an atheist but you can be an agnostic to belong to the BSA. You may believe in a higher power without using the word God.

I've been in the scouting program most of my life and I can tell you this...you do not HAVE TO believe in any higher power just to be registered in the Boy Scouts. If you are a boy and want to advance in rank then you had better show some reverence for something, "A Scout is Reverent". But just to be a member doesn't require it.
